Old Violin Bow by Martin
◆A Fine Old French Violin Bow, School of MARTIN, 4/4◆
Brand: MARTIN (See image)
Certificate of Authenticity: None
Stick Material: Round, Brazil Wood
Frog: Ebony
Screw: German Silver
Ferrule: German Silver
Full Size (4/4)
Weight: Approx. 62g
Balance Point: Approx. 255mm (excluding screw length)
This is a very rare bow.
I recall trading for it with another bow sometime in the past.
I was told it's a Martin bow, but I'm unsure if it's School, Atelier, MasterMade, or something else. I cannot verify its authenticity.
Given that a Martin bow with a certificate of authenticity would cost over 2 million yen, I believe it's at best a School model.
The brand stamp is so faint it's barely visible.
It has a distinctive head style, giving it a light and agile appearance, but the balance point is slightly closer to the stick.
↓Biography of Jean Joseph Martin↓
<Martin opened his own workshop in Mirecourt in 1863, where he produced and supplied bows for the Jerome Thibouville-Lamy (JTL) workshop. He later served as director of Emile Menesson's workshop. During this period, he also collaborated with the luthier Eugène Langonet.>>
The bow is in good condition, with no breaks, no strange warping, and no particular issues. I will not comment on its sound quality as it depends on the violin and individual preferences.
No reservations or holds.
Basically, I do not accept price negotiations as they are troublesome.
Sold as-is.
Shipping once a week.
Thank you for your consideration.
No returns to prevent fraudulent exchanges.
