Set of 5 Roscher Stoneware Mugs Cobalt Blue Reactive Glaze Beaded Band En Gres
N/A
Five tall tapered stoneware mugs in a reactive cobalt glaze that does not sit still: deep denim blue over most of the body, breaking to a plum-aubergine at the rim and along the vertical ribs where the glaze ran thin in the kiln. A narrow beaded band circles each mug just below the lip, catching the light like a row of stitches. The interiors are clean bright white, which makes the blue read even deeper when the mug is full. No two are identical - reactive glazes never are - and lined up together the variation is the whole appeal. Roscher is a housewares maker whose stoneware lines lean on exactly this kind of high-fire reactive glazing, and the base carries the full mark: ROSCHER over Stoneware / En Gres, with dishwasher and microwave safe notation and Made in China. En gres is simply the French for stoneware, a nod to the European studio look these were designed to echo. This is a production line rather than studio pottery, but it is the good end of production - real stoneware body, real reactive glaze, no decals. Condition: Gently used. All five sound and free of chips, cracks, or crazing. No utensil scoring inside, no staining. Light shelf wear to the unglazed foot rings. Glaze is glossy and unworn throughout. - Maker: Roscher - Form: Tall tapered coffee mug - Quantity: Set of 5 - Marks: ROSCHER / Stoneware / En Gres / Made in China - Material: Glazed stoneware - Era: Late 20th - early 21st century The mug that makes a Tuesday morning feel considered.
