《Difference between Haneri and Date-eri》
▶ Haneri (Half Collar)
This is used to prevent the kimono collar from getting dirty, often from makeup, and is sewn onto the collar of the nagajuban (under-kimono).
A haneri is necessary for all kimonos, and without it, a collar stiffener cannot be inserted, preventing a neat and beautiful collar.
▶ Date-eri (Layered Collar)
This is worn directly over the kimono collar to create the appearance of wearing multiple layers of kimonos.
While a haneri also adds a decorative touch to the kimono, a date-eri adds another color between the kimono and the haneri, making the chest area of the kimono very vibrant.
The basic rule for choosing the color of a date-eri is to match it with the color of the obi-age (sash accessory) or obi-jime (sash cord), or with a color found in the obi's pattern.
