The Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau surfing contest, held at Waimea Bay to honor the legacy of Eddie Aikau, began in 1986. In 2009, this memorial competition celebrated its 25th anniversary. This contest, which only takes place when waves exceed 20 feet, has only been held 8 times in its 25-year history. In 2009, Takayuki Wakita was invited to this contest, which gathers world-renowned surfers, becoming the second Japanese surfer to ever receive such an invitation. This work chronicles the 2009 competition, as well as the history of past tournaments, through interviews and more.
