Antique Elkington & Co Silverplate Footed Salver Card Tray Rococo Victorian 8.5"
Richly detailed Victorian footed salver with an exuberant cast rococo border of scrolling acanthus leaves, shells, and blossoms surrounding a finely chased field of scrollwork, raised on three cast scroll feet. Attributed to Elkington & Co of Birmingham, England — the firm that patented commercial electroplating in the 1840s and supplied silver to grand hotels, ocean liners, and royalty. The underside carries a stamped hallmark-style strip with the gothic E&Co maker's punch, a castle device, and electroplate marks, in the manner Elkington used on its Victorian plate. Condition: Good antique. Even, mellow patina with scattered plate wear and toning consistent with 130+ years of age; the chased detail remains crisp throughout. No breaks, bends, or repairs; the feet are sound and it sits level. Please note: silver naturally develops patina and toning over time, so the finish may appear brighter or softer than photographed depending on when it was last polished. - Maker: Elkington & Co (attributed), Birmingham, England - Form: Footed salver / calling card tray - Diameter: approx. 8.5 - Height: approx. 1.5 on three scroll feet - Marks: E&Co (gothic script), castle, EP punches on reverse - Era: Victorian, c. 1850-1890 A ready-made statement piece for calling cards, cocktails, jewelry, or a vanity top.
