For Jiro-sama: YAMAHA NIKKAN YHR-661 First Full Double Used
This is a YAMAHA First model, the YHR661.
I purchased it used and have been using it weekly in a local community orchestra, but I am considering selling it due to changing instruments and decluttering.
This is a vintage instrument from the handmade era, over 55 years old, made by Nikkan/Yamaha. I believe it is in mint condition, both in terms of the lacquer surface and rotary valve airtightness.
The YAMAHA logo and model number are engraved, not printed, and it resonates beautifully up to the note above High-F.
I also used the First Custom 861, but I prefer this one because it resonates with a rich, soft sound.
I am listing it in hopes that someone will cherish it.
The rotary valves are in good condition as shown in the photos, and they were adjusted at a musical instrument store in Tokyo last year.
All the slide tubes are in perfect working order. Among the many horns I have played, I have cherished this one for its beautiful resonance, ease of play, and good intonation. I have also experienced later models like the 664/764, but they felt completely different.
It has a mellow sound, similar to overseas handmade instruments like Dürk. (Perhaps I'm praising it a bit too much.)
I am considering keeping the 661 because I believe it is rare to find one in such good condition, but I would like to pass it on to someone who will use it well, or to a Yamaha fan. If there is no one who wants it, I will continue to keep it.
The price is not cheap, but please leave a comment if you have a desired purchase price. Test playing is not possible, and all sales are final (NCNR).
The serial number is in the 500s.
It is in almost perfect condition with no lacquer peeling. It is a one-piece yellow brass instrument with no patch reinforcements or serious dents. The F/B♭ switching is currently set to open B♭. (This was changed by a professional repairman at a musical instrument store in Tokyo.)
Normally, it is difficult to easily change the 661 to open B♭, as it requires a rotary mechanism part to be installed at a 90-degree offset (which may be discontinued?). However, I will also include the rotary mechanism part for open F that was used before the change. Therefore, it can be changed to either F or B♭ at a musical instrument store.
There are no pets or smokers in my home, so I don't believe there are any strange odors specific to old instruments. There are no dents on the mouthpiece.
It will be shipped on weekends via Yamato Transport's cash-on-delivery service, with the original hard case (pictured) being transported to a Yamato Transport sales office. Shipping will be from the Tokyo metropolitan area. Thank you for your understanding.
