Vandoren Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece, Vincent Abato Model
Thank you for viewing. Please be sure to read my profile before purchasing.
Vincent Abato was an American saxophonist and clarinetist active from around the 1940s to the 1970s, a master musician who also recorded Ibert's Concertino.
This item is his signature model. As it is a vintage item, there are signs of use, but the ebonite has not discolored significantly, and considering its age, I believe the condition is not bad.
I acquired it for my collection, so I have hardly played it since it came into my possession, but I applied a Breath KinK patch to protect the mouthpiece. I will include it as is, as it would be a waste to remove it.
There are minor scratches on the tip and rails, but in tests where I attached a reed and drew air through the mouthpiece, the reed and mouthpiece sealed properly.
The Vandoren logo is carefully engraved, not the cheap print seen today. The V.J. Abato engraving below it indicates that this is a special model. This is a mouthpiece that allows you to enjoy the craftsmanship of a bygone era.
According to a website introducing old Vandoren mouthpieces, the opening is 1.57mm.
