Description
This is a complete 4-volume set of videotapes for the drama Psychosomatic Medicine Doctor Ryoko starring Shigeru Muroi.
This is a controversial work, so it has not been released on DVD (due to protests from doctors) and is a rare piece that will likely never be released in the future.
As it is a valuable work, how about adding it to your collection if you've been looking for it?
Synopsis
A medical drama starring Shigeru Muroi, broadcast in 1997 as the successor to Lost Paradise. However, it is also a controversial work that received numerous protest letters from actual doctors, stating that its content deviated from the scope of a psychosomatic medicine doctor.
The work focuses on the cases of various patients with mental illnesses who visit the psychosomatic medicine department of Meihou University School of Medicine Hospital. Each episode featured a star-studded guest cast playing the patients. While the viewership ratings were not as high as its predecessor Lost Paradise, they remained steady for a Monday 10 PM drama. On the other hand, as mentioned below, opinions on its content were sharply divided from the time of its broadcast.
Problems with the Work
Inappropriate illnesses covered (diseases that should be treated by psychiatry, not psychosomatic medicine).
Sensationalistic depiction of these illnesses (making it harder for psychosomatic medicine patients to seek treatment).
Real doctors do not act like Ryoko.
The danger of viewers expecting immediate recovery after watching the drama, leading them to hop between hospitals.
