1950's Nubian African MCM head vases
These are a pair of vintage Joan Lea Creations Nubian African American Blackamoor head vases in a scarce chartreuse green glaze with gold accents. Made in California, these pieces date back to the 1940s or 1950s. They feature hand-painted details, including ruby red lips and gold earrings and headdresses. The vases measure approximately 6 inches tall. Blackamoor is a style in European decorative art depicting figures of sub-Saharan African descent, though the style is now viewed by some as racist.
