[Details]
Kuizu Shrine, the guardian deity of Bushu Iwatsuki, located in Iwatsuki Ward, Saitama City.
The founding of Kuizu Shrine, the guardian deity of Bushu Iwatsuki, dates back to approximately 1400 years ago, during the reign of Emperor Kinmei. It is said to have originated when the Haji clan of the Izumo tribe, during their migration to the eastern provinces, invited a branch spirit of Izumo's Kuizu Myojin (Onamuchi no Mikoto) and established a shrine on this land.
In 1457 (the first year of Chōroku) during the Sengoku period, when Iwatsuki Castle was built, the shrine was placed within the castle grounds as the guardian deity of Iwatsuki Castle. During the Edo period, it was revered by Tokugawa Ieyasu as a ward against evil from Edo, and prayers for safe passage were offered when the Tokugawa shogunate made pilgrimages to Nikko, receiving deep reverence from the samurai class.
The enshrined deity is Onamuchi no Mikoto, also known as Okuninushi no Mikoto.
Okuninushi no Mikoto is known as a deity possessing many divine virtues, and is believed to bring blessings in various fields such as matchmaking, agriculture, business, medicine, and prosperity of descendants. He is particularly revered by many worshipers as a god who grants wishes for land development, industrial promotion, business prosperity, prosperity of descendants, family safety, protection from bad directions, warding off evil, safe childbirth, and victory prayers.
Furthermore, in 1938 (Showa 13), three elegant peacocks were dedicated by Prince Asaka, and peacocks became the symbol of the shrine, known as Hisaiizu-san's Peacocks.
Since they were dedicated on the 9th, the 9th of every month is designated as a special day at the shrine.
Currently, from the original three peacocks, they have increased over several generations to 16, and are carefully raised as a symbol of the divine virtue of prosperity of descendants.
