Lion (LION) ● Nib/Cabra Pen (Spoon Pen) ◆ 10 pcs ◆ Free Shipping

US Size:

Lion (LION) Nib - Dome (Spoon Nib)
Engraved with FUKUI IND CO E-F LION MADE IN JAPAN.

This nib is still popular among calligraphy enthusiasts.
10 unused nibs, free shipping.

This item was previously featured in a popular ranking of recommended dip pens for penmanship practice.

While spoon nibs (also known as kabura nibs) can be difficult to vary line thickness with in penmanship practice, unlike brush pens that allow for varied strokes,

this nib offers smooth opening and closing, making it relatively easy to achieve line variation.

Furthermore, depending on the angle of the pen, you can achieve even more variation in line thickness and boldness.
This nib is recommended for both beginners and experienced users.

I also enjoy practicing calligraphy, and among the stiffer nibs like the kabura nib and the Nihonji nib, this one feels slightly softer and might be suitable for those with average or lighter writing pressure.
Therefore, heavy writers might experience faster wear.

◆About the Nib Manufacturer◆
Lion nibs were produced by the office supply company LION, but they are no longer manufactured.
The production and sale of these nibs ceased over 20 years ago in 1996 (Heisei 8), making them a brand that is gradually disappearing.

Currently, the Japanese nib brands available are Tachikawa, Nikko, and Zebra.
Nikko brand nibs were inherited by Tachikawa, so the manufacturing companies are now only Tachikawa and Zebra.

There are also claims that older items have better performance.
During the period of high economic growth, around Showa 60 (1985), the production of dip pens reached an astronomical figure of 1 million gross (1 gross = 144 pens). However, with the changing times, government offices and banks also shifted to ballpoint pens.

Nibs:
In the past, the number of nibs produced was high, and they were manufactured in large quantities with many skilled workers.
It is said that the same manufacturing machines are still in use today, and while the number of workers has drastically decreased, many of the workers from the mass production era possessed high skills.
I have heard that items from that era are superior.

Furthermore, chrome-colored nibs show less deterioration and are said to retain their original performance even today.

I also enjoy practicing calligraphy and enjoy changing nibs depending on what I am writing.
