Stamped Ware: Tortoise and Tassels in Flowing Water Guinomi Sake Cups, Set of 5, Meiji Period
A set of 5 sake cups with inban (stamped) decoration, made during the Meiji period.
A strangely realistic and audacious turtle is depicted with flowing water.
The upper part features a瓔珞文 (yōraku-mon) pattern.
While turtles are a common motif, I believe this particular turtle is quite rare.
As is typical with inban ware, there are instances of pattern loss, breaks, misalignments, and bleeding.
There are kiln marks from the firing process.
The foot rim is slightly rough and uneven, but there are no chips or cracks on the rim.
Please accept my apologies if I have overlooked anything.
These are antiques over 100 years old.
