We primarily grow enough rice for personal use and to share with relatives and friends. It is also used in restaurants.
We have not used herbicides for over 30 years. It has been 7 years since we stopped using pesticides altogether, moving from reduced pesticide use.
We have consistently used homemade EM bokashi, primarily made from rice bran, as fertilizer.
A variety of creatures inhabit our rice paddies, including fairy shrimp, tadpole shrimp, loaches, crayfish, and snails. This is safe and secure rice.
