Big Lotus Wash Ten-Sei-Dei Water 48

This is a type of Zisha pottery called Big Lotus Wash, made from *Tianqing clay. Its design is inspired by the natural lotus seed pod, giving it unique artistic value and practical functionality. In Greek mythology, the lotus is a plant whose fruit is said to make one forget the present world and enter a dreamlike state.

The sophisticated shape and texture of the large lotus pod mimic a real one. The top of the pod features an irregularly shaped opening that appears to have had its skin peeled away, and the wrinkled texture around the pod is similar to that of a real lotus. Lotus seeds are delicately sculpted on top of the pod, appearing lifelike.

This piece is not only a work of art but also possesses a certain practicality. It can be used as a stationery item, such as a small water dish placed next to an inkstone for washing brushes and inkstones. Its simple and rustic shape has a regional and local character, making it very popular among scholars.
