■ Seeds were harvested from our own plants in December of last year, Reiwa 7 (2025). We will send you 30 seeds. We have lightly sorted them, but there may be small imperfections that we have overlooked.

■ This blue soybean (variety name: Hiden mame) is a native variety (fixed variety) originating from Yamagata Prefecture in the Tohoku region.

■ Cultivated using natural farming methods (no pesticides, no fertilizer, no tilling).

■ We have been harvesting seeds from this soybean variety on our own for the past three years in Kanagawa Prefecture.

■ It is a mid-late maturing, white-haired, high-yielding fixed variety of soybean.

■ Planting time in general and warm regions is mid-June to late July.
Harvest as edamame in mid-to-late September.
Harvest as soybeans from late October to late November.

■ For the past three years, the Kanto region has experienced extreme heat from August to September. Furthermore, there has been almost no rain, and it seems that the dryness during the flowering and bean-setting period resulted in only about half the usual harvest. Even if pods formed, the beans did not grow large. Ground temperatures exceeding 35°C made watering ineffective as the water evaporated quickly. (If planted too early, only the leaves grow vigorously, so I plant mine from early to late July in Kanagawa Prefecture.) This is for your reference in cultivation.

■ These are very large blue soybeans with excellent aroma and taste (very sweet).

■ As for how to eat them, besides salt-boiled soybeans (exquisite), they are also used for simmered beans, miso, and tofu. As edamame, they are large and satisfying.
