You can use them in cooking similarly to shallots or eschalots. Peel off the outer brown skin, trim off the top and bottom ends (where the stem and roots were), and then cook.

[Raw, Shallot-Style]
Thinly slice and use as a garnish for seared bonito (katsuo no tataki) or chilled tofu (hiyayakko), or simply dip in miso or mayonnaise as a snack.

[Foil-Baked / Deep-Fried]
Foil-bake whole with olive oil and salt, or deep-fry. The spiciness disappears, and a fluffy sweetness is enhanced.

[Pickled in Sweet Vinegar / Soy Sauce]
Pickle them like rakkyo (Japanese pickled scallions) to enjoy them as a long-lasting side dish.

Store seed bulbs in a net or bag in a well-ventilated area.

From summer to autumn, plant the seed bulbs with the sprouts facing up, about 10-15 cm apart. Plant them so that the tip of the sprout is just barely covered by soil.
Depending on the size of the seed bulb, you may want to plant 2-3 bulbs together as one plant. They can be grown in fields or planters.
