3 Machilus thunbergii trees, evergreen trees of the Lauraceae family.
These are still small seedlings, but they are a food source for the larvae of the Graphium sarpedon butterfly.

They are said to be more cold-hardy than camphor trees.
These are 2-year-old seedlings that germinated in 2025 and overwintered. The leaves have some damage.

Young seedlings seem to produce soft new shoots more frequently than trees that are several years old.
They are very useful for raising young larvae of Graphium sarpedon, which require soft leaves that do not last long.

At my home, I planted two small seedlings in pots. They grew to about 70 cm in about 2 years, and Graphium sarpedon flew to lay eggs for the first time.
I raised three larvae to their final instar within the size of a planter, and they completely defoliated the trees.
Since then, Graphium sarpedon has visited to lay eggs every year.

It will take more than a year for seedlings of this size to grow to a size suitable for raising larvae. This is a long-term plan, but it is highly recommended for gardens where you want to invite Graphium sarpedon.

We will send 3 seedlings of the size shown in photos 1-3, removed from their pots with some soil removed, as bare-root plants with plenty of soil, via Nekoposu.
They will be delivered to your mailbox in a package approximately A4 size and 3 cm thick.

We also accept exchanges for Shiromodama at an additional ￥190 per plant.

No pesticides are used. We pack with care, but please forgive any insect damage or the inclusion of insects.

To deliver the plants with as little stress as possible, we prefer to sell to customers within the delivery range of Nekoposu from Niigata, which arrives the next day.
