This is a miniature glass art object (figurine) of a kiwi (New Zealand's national bird).
- About the Kiwi (Bird) -
The kiwi, New Zealand's national bird, is an extremely unique bird that has evolved to be so close to mammals that it defies common sense for birds.
Instead of wings, which have completely atrophied, rendering them flightless, they possess an astonishing sense of smell and strong leg power. They also lay eggs that are among the largest in the world relative to their body weight, weighing approximately 20-25% of their body weight (equivalent to more than 6 chicken eggs), boasting a one-of-a-kind ecology.
With the passing of the last kiwi at Tennoji Zoo in Osaka in 2024, the captive breeding of kiwis has ceased in Japan. Therefore, it is currently impossible to see a live kiwi in Japan.
