Description
High-quality Hagi ware, Sansai-an, Hitomaru Kiln, Sencha teacup set of 5. Four slight indentations are made on the cups to prevent them from slipping from your hand. The glaze color, resembling milk, has a unique and gentle atmosphere. The fact that each piece is not exactly the same is also part of its charm.

Purchased during a hot spring trip to Hagi, Yamaguchi Prefecture. They have been displayed in a cupboard as new and unused items.

? There is a maker's mark in the last magnified photo.

? The characteristics of Hagi ware, even without a maker's mark, are the cut on the bottom and the crazing.
While some may not have a cut on the bottom, the appearance and crazing are unique to Hagi ware.
★ Items with a maker's mark are consequently higher-priced items.

? The very last photo shows a teacup from the same manufacturer, with the original price of ¥8,800 discounted to ¥5,720 including tax.

? I believe the original price was around ¥20,000, but I am listing it at a low price.
Hagi ware is quite expensive.

? Price reduction: ¥10,000 ? Drastically reduced to ¥8,500.

Unlike other ceramics, it is said to change seven times.
Even if the same potter throws on the wheel, due to the concept of 'kiin seido' (vitality and spirit), each piece is different because it is not made from a mold. There are various ways of kicking the wheel: left kick with left finish, left kick with right finish, right kick with left finish, and right kick with right finish. These differences arise from the potter's individual 'habit' of kicking the wheel, resulting in unique and interesting variations in each piece.

Next, there are differences in the concentration, mixing, and application of the glaze. When fired in the kiln, it undergoes the baptism of fire, and significant changes occur due to the fire. Hagi kilns typically have three to four climbing kilns, but within a single kiln, there are differences between the back, middle, and front of the fire. Furthermore, the height of the back of the fire, and the front, middle, and back of the kiln's opening all present variations. The finished product varies considerably depending on its position.

Additionally, due to the kiln's characteristics, which are not entirely under the potter's control, the pieces undergo further transformations as they are used. They are truly responsive, and due to the glaze, fine and coarse crazing appears.

Feldspar becomes glassy when exposed to fire and covers the clay. Differences in the degree to which this feldspar becomes glassy in response to heat cause cracks. Because this Hagi clay is softer and more absorbent than other ceramic clays, and the firing temperature is somewhat lower, the glaze changes along these cracks at a higher rate, making seven transformations a characteristic of Hagi ware. At the same time, these seven transformations are also the charm of Hagi ware.
