No. 785 - Vintage Baluch Bag Face

Product Number: 785
Era: 1980s
Origin: Herat, Afghanistan
Materials: Wool x Wool
Size: 85cm x 64cm (excluding fringe)
Thickness: 6mm

This tribal rug, featuring a blend of dull black and burgundy with vibrant red, accented by softly appearing white borders and octagrams, is a Baluchi tribal rug from Herat Province, Afghanistan. It was originally the front panel of a khurjin, a type of saddlebag used to carry on camels, which has been repurposed as a rug.

Given its size, which is two sizes larger than a typical khurjin, it is believed to have been a bag used for storing household items. The octagram pattern in the center is common, possibly related to customs for household safety. Its manageable size makes it suitable not only for laying on the floor but also as a charming accent rug.

This is a 45-year-old vintage rug. As it was originally a bag, it shows minimal signs of wear, with no noticeable stains, damage, or repairs. It is in good condition, with a pleasant, soft texture from the moderately long pile.

◎ About Our Products
Some items may have undergone professional repairs in Iran or at our local suppliers. However, some items are not repaired if they are in good condition and the aesthetic is prioritized, so minor repairs that we may not have noticed may be present. Please understand this.

We source these rugs from local sellers who state they are cleaned. However, please be aware that some sand may remain and there might be some pile debris.
Occasionally, there may be nail marks from the drying process after cleaning, but these will naturally blend in with use.
* Items with significant issues are cleaned domestically during inspection. If absolutely necessary, this will be noted in the description and reflected in the price.

Finally, the rug itself may have a characteristic wool scent. Measurements are taken near the center, but please understand that there may be slight variations due to the natural irregularities of hand-weaving, shrinkage from washing, and color variations due to natural dyes and aging, which are all part of the charm of vintage rugs.
