【Japanese Aquatic Plant】Water Hyacinth Seeds 【40 Seeds】

These are seeds of the Japanese aquatic plant Mizu-aoi (Monochoria korsakowii).
The parent plant is from Shizuoka Prefecture.

Photos 1 and 2 show the parent plant currently growing.
We will send seeds of equivalent quality to those in Photo 3, in a dried state.

The seeds we send are from plants that flowered and fruited in 2025 at our home. They germinate around April when the water temperature reaches 15-20°C, after overwintering.
Seed dormancy is broken by low winter temperatures, so please store the seeds in a cold place, such as outdoors or in a refrigerator, during winter.
Germination rates are high, but they are buried seeds and may germinate in subsequent years.

As it is an annual plant, it flowers and fruits in the year it germinates, and the parent plant dies in winter.

Scatter the seeds on shallow mud when the water temperature reaches 15-20°C. As they are very small, an environment without fish or shrimp is desirable.
They prefer strong light, so grow them in an environment with as much direct sunlight as possible. They grew well even in environments where the water temperature approached 40°C without any issues.
If grown in a large container with fertilizer, they will grow quite large. In small pots without fertilizer, they will grow small.
