Schroogaya Tsuru - For bract cutting - 3 stem tips
Seedlings with sprouts and roots are also listed separately. (They sell out quickly, so apologies to those who are waiting.)
We will include plants similar to the one in the third image if available.
The product consists of the three stem tips shown in the second image and will be shipped via fourth-class mail. The center one has flowers. If the flowers turn into seeds, they will sprout as shown in the last image. (If you zoom in on the pink circle, you can see the roots.)
If you place it in water, it will develop roots (blue mark) and new shoots (red mark) as shown in the third image.
For soil planting, bury the area circled in blue in the fourth image in the soil and ensure it is well-watered, and new shoots will emerge as indicated by the red arrow pointing downwards. The close-up of the plant indicated by the left arrow is shown in the fifth image, with new shoots emerging from at least four locations.
Please note that the bracts (what appear to be leaves are actually bracts, and the true leaves are apparently reduced) may be trimmed short.
You may see wild Cyperus grass, and our plants also grow to over 2 meters if not thinned out.
It is a relative of papyrus, brought to Japan from Madagascar as an ornamental plant.
It has become a weed in waters like reservoirs, but it does not seem to propagate in areas where the water freezes. It is cold-hardy and evergreen, and will be fine as long as the water does not freeze.
It also appears to have water purification properties.
This plant was included in a biotope set for killifish at a home improvement store.
It grows with just water, and does not grow large in water alone or in pots.
In our home, we easily grow it hydroponically in empty bottles or cups as shown in the seventh image, and recently we have planted it in a unique pot we found (sixth image). It's like a summer foliage plant. Both are kept indoors.
Some people also make moss balls with it. (Images 8 and 9 are for reference.)
Due to the nature of this plant, some leaves may turn brown, so the product condition is displayed as shown.
It grows small in hydroponics or pots, and large when planted in the ground.
