Cucumber Herb Dyed Noren Curtain - Handmade - Natural Dye - Plant Dye

This is a handmade noren (Japanese curtain).

Made from double gauze fabric, it has a gentle, soft feel and a light impression.

◎ Dyed with cucumber weed (Kyuri-gusa), a plant that grows in the garden.

This dyeing method is called eco-print (there may be other names, but I found eco-print to be unsatisfactory, so I came up with my own name).

For now, I've called it Shokubutsu Sugata Zome (Plant Form Dyeing).

I named it this because the dyeing method captures the shape of the plant as it is, meaning form as it is.

◎ Due to the process, there may be some distortion in the fabric.

◎ Ironing will help to straighten it. However, some distortion may remain, so please understand.

Double gauze, 100% cotton.

The fabric was already sewn into the shape of a noren. Then, the plants (cucumber weed) were sandwiched, rolled up, and steamed in a pot.

◎ A liquid made by mixing iron rust, vinegar, and hot water, left to sit, is applied to the cloth to transfer the plant's image.

The presence of the plants is like they are captured alive, with their original vibrancy. It's a lively, interesting, and deeply flavorful dyed textile.

Each piece is unique.

◎ Small, crispy fragments of black plant matter are adhering to this piece, slightly more than usual. They can be removed by finger.

● You don't need to be overly concerned about avoiding direct sunlight.

● In fact, it can look more striking and beautiful when illuminated from behind.

● Please wash as you normally would.

● Avoid bleach.

● Although it is gauze fabric, the absorbency seems to have decreased after the dyeing process, based on my experience using it to dry my hands. Please be aware of this.
