This is a meter for measuring the moisture content of rice and grains.
For rice, in particular, moisture content is a key inspection item during grade assessment, with agricultural cooperatives and other organizations setting a standard of 15% (for brown rice).
After harvesting, raw unhulled rice is dried, and then the hull is removed to produce brown rice for milling. The moisture content of the raw unhulled rice is measured with a rice and grain moisture meter to ensure it is not over-dried.
It can also be used as a guideline for setting drying times after harvest.
