Royal Copenhagen's year plates have been produced for over 100 years, starting with the first edition in 1908, surviving through World War I and World War II.

This item is the 1993 (Heisei 5 in Japan) Royal Copenhagen year plate, Christmas Guests.

The motif depicts grandchildren eagerly awaiting Christmas and their grandparents. It shows grandchildren excitedly welcoming their grandparents, who are visiting their small town with many Christmas presents. A Christmas tree, fitting for the season, is decorated on the front of the train.

While the official website sells back issues for a high price of 52,800 yen, this is a very rare item as the official website currently shows it as out of stock.
Once the production for a given year is complete, the mold for Royal Copenhagen year plates is destroyed, and the same plate will never be made again. The value of existing plates increases year by year as they become rarer.
