6 Smoke Salmon Knives, Small Size for Tea Time, Silver Plated, 1940s, UK
Items marked with ENGLAND alongside Sheffield are extremely rare, as most items are only marked SHEFFIELD, making this a highly collectible piece.
Length: Approximately 19.7-9 cm
Width: 2.5 cm at its widest point
A set of silver-plated fish knives made in Sheffield, England. They appear to be unused or barely used.
(Also suitable for cheese)
During the pre-war and immediate post-war periods in Britain, cutlery for high tea, such as small forks for smoked salmon or canapés served at standing receptions, were made slightly shorter and lighter.
This size is rarely seen in Japan, likely because few people host formal high tea gatherings at home.
I am selling this set as I own two others.
Specifically for appetizers and high tea.
These are made smaller and lighter than standard cutlery used when seated at the dining table.
In the UK, smoked salmon sandwiches and canapés are common at cocktail parties. These knives are designed to be small for use at tea parties or standing receptions.
Purchased from Barnett's, a silverware specialist on George Street in London.
These are from the pre-war and post-war era and were stored in an old box.
The box is dirty, so I will be discarding it.
