(How do you differentiate between Kokorozashi and Kimyōshi, Shishichinichi Kimyōshi, Shishichinichi Kimyōshi, and Manchūinshi?)
All of these are noshi writings for Buddhist memorial services. Kimyōshi, Shishichinichi Kimyōshi, Shishichinichi Kimyōshi (Kanto region) and Manchūinshi (Kinki region) are only written when returning gifts after the 49-day memorial service. Kokorozashi is the most common and generally accepted noshi writing, suitable for use before or after the 49-day memorial service. Kokorozashi expresses gratitude. Manchūinshi includes a report of the completion of the 49-day memorial service and is commonly used in the Kinki region and westward. Chūin in Buddhism refers to the period between this world and the next. The safe passage to Buddhahood and ascension to heaven after 49 days is expressed as Manchūin, meaning the Chūin has been completed.
