Kintaro Dolls are a type of May Doll displayed on Tango no Sekku (Children's Day, May 5th) to wish for boys' healthy growth, strong and kind personalities, and success in life.

The model is Sakata Kintoki, one of the Four Heavenly Kings of Minamoto no Yorimitsu. His popular depiction is wearing an apron with the character 金 (kin, meaning gold) on it, serving as a charm to ward off illness and misfortune.

Main Meanings and Origins of Kintaro Dolls:

Health and Strength: Inspired by Kintaro, who grew up in the mountains, this symbolizes the wish for the child to grow up with a strong body that can overcome illness.

Kindness: From episodes where Kintaro befriended animals, this symbolizes the wish for the child to possess not only strength but also a kind heart.

Success in Life: From the legend of Sakata Kintoki, who was active as a warrior, this symbolizes the wish for future success.

Protection from Evil: The doll serves as a substitute that takes on illnesses and accidents in place of the child.

Why not display it not only as a decoration for Tango no Sekku but also as a seasonal decoration in your entryway, living room, or children's room?

How about a nostalgic Kintaro Doll as a decoration for community centers or facilities?

This is a Showa-era Doll. It has been kept in its box.
