Purpose: This is typically set up when remains are returned home after cremation, to enshrine the ashes, memorial tablet, and portrait until the 49th day memorial service (end of mourning period). This set is being offered because the 49th day has passed.
Structure: Generally, a 2 or 3-tiered altar covered with white cloth is used. This is a white paper-made cardboard altar.
Buddhist Altar Fittings: In front of the altar, a kyo-zukue (altar table) or small table is placed, and Buddhist altar fittings such as a censer, candle holders, flower vases, a butsuhan-ki (for rice), and a cha-yu-ki (for tea) are arranged.
