② Jonas Palmius 'Excent' G?rsn?s Beech Chair

??? ?? ?? Product Overview

This is the beautifully sculpted 'Excent' chair by Swedish designer/sculptor Jonas Palmius. It was manufactured in the 1990s by the long-established Swedish furniture maker GARSNAS, but information is scarce, and details beyond that are unclear. We believe this to be one of the very rare Nordic chairs.

The minimalist combination of straight lines and curves is exceptionally beautiful, and dense beech wood is used luxuriously. We were able to find a photograph of the chair prominently featured in a Jonas Palmius solo exhibition, and strangely, also a photograph of a bronze statue (?).

Regarding comfort, the curved backrest is like a high-back chair and is comfortable. However, due to its structure, the chair tends to sway left and right when vertical weight is applied, and it is not particularly stable. It becomes even more prone to swaying when used on a rug. While it can be used without issue by an adult sitting firmly, it is not suitable for uses that involve significant changes in posture on the chair.

Our impression is that, much like Rietveld's Red and Blue Chair, the beauty of the structure takes precedence over seating comfort.

Online photos show some examples with iron bars integrated into the leg bases and others without. This item does not have them, but screw holes are present.
