Produced by Yasushi Akimoto. The second group in the Sakamichi Series following Nogizaka46, it was formed in August 2015 after an audition with 22,009 applicants.
They debuted on April 6, 2016, with their first single Silent Majority.
They achieved the highest first-week sales for a debut single by a female artist in Oricon history.
Within eight months of their debut, they made their first appearance on the 67th Kohaku Uta Gassen, and have since appeared for three consecutive years.
In November 2018, nine second-generation members joined the group for the first time.
In February 2019, they released their 8th single Kuroi Hitsuji, extending their streak of consecutive #1 rankings on the Oricon weekly chart to eight.
They celebrated their third anniversary on April 6, 2019, and held a highly successful three-day concert at the Nippon Budokan in May.
