Humans are made of the past, not the future. And the hints for the future lie in the past. With this theme, Showa 40-nen Otoko magazine takes you on a time-traveling journey through the Showa era that the magazine has explored. The January 10th issue, following up on the previous one, will feature Still Alive in Showa as its main theme, with a focus on the Buildings Edition. Buildings, radio towers, and hotels that stand out with their individuality amidst changing townscapes; multi-tenant buildings in front of stations; restaurants, cafes, and shopping streets that transport you back in time; museums, amusement parks, and aquariums that we want to pass on the joy of to children – these Showa-born structures, which have existed close by and naturally since childhood, have become increasingly special as they have survived through the Heisei and Reiwa eras without significant changes. The buildings and facilities etched in the memories of Showa 40-nen Otoko, who were born, raised, and worked hard during the vibrant Showa era, are living as resiliently as we are, and seem to even send us cheers when we feel like complaining. We deliver this issue with the hope of proudly passing them on to the next generation.
