Okinawa Sanshin (Nanpu Prototype) Made of Striped Ebony
This is a Rokusen (six-stringed sanshin) from Haebaru, Okinawa.
The material used is **Striped Ebony (Shima Kokutan)**, known for its deep, beautiful grain and powerful acoustic properties that firmly resonate with the strings.
The body is covered with artificial skin, offering excellent durability while faithfully reproducing the bright, sustained tones characteristic of the Rokusen, along with a solid, resonant sound.
You can enjoy a unique and rich sound that combines the charm of Okinawan and Amami sanshin.
The neck is finished with a transparent coating (Sunchi), enhancing the natural beauty of the Striped Ebony's grain for a luxurious appearance.
Characteristics of the Okinawan Rokusen's sound:
1. Wide range and rich expressiveness
With the increase from three to six strings, the instrument offers a broad range from low to high notes, allowing for richer chords and melodies. The sound is deeper and more profound than a standard sanshin.
2. Beautiful overlapping overtones and deep resonance
Because multiple strings can reinforce the same pitch, the overtones become stronger, creating a warm, expansive resonance. The resonance is particularly rich on open strings.
*Please note that due to the long neck, this instrument will not fit in a standard hard case.
