Hub Oil for Okinawa Sanshin Snake Skin Maintenance!

This is habu oil, essential for the maintenance of Okinawa sanshin.

It is viscous, so a small amount is sufficient.

The amount used at one time is minimal.

Although it is about 30ml, it can be used for several years.

It will solidify and turn white in low temperatures, but it will be fine if warmed in lukewarm water.

For maintenance, apply a small amount to a soft material such as a cotton swab and wipe the skin as if stroking it, as if brushing away dust.

If you apply too much habu oil, the sound of the sanshin will become dull, but it will return to normal over time.

For a chigar (body) with a single layer of snakeskin (hon-bari), it will last a long time with the vibrations from playing, but maintenance with habu oil will make it last even longer.

For chigar with reinforced skin (ni-ju-bari) with an underlayer of cloth, the snakeskin will not tear, but occasionally cracks may appear. Habu oil can prevent these cracks and keep the snakeskin beautiful.

It has a slight odor, but please use habu oil to take good care of your sanshin.
