The hexagonal opening is a special size for Penn reels, and the spanner nut size is compatible with American direct-drive reels such as Shakespeare, South Bend, Bronson, and Pflueger. (Does not fit mm-standard reels like Abu Garcia AMBASSADEUR, Daiwa, or Shimano.)
