69 Recommended for Beginners: Roasted Bamboo, Clear Lacquer Finish, Classical Style 7-Hole 7-Tone Shakuhachi, Negishi Shinobue Studio
This is made to the same specifications as the Shishida and Maruyama shinobue flutes.
Most beginners can produce low notes, but seem to struggle with high notes or the pi sound. Many are concerned about whether their current flute is truly capable of producing these notes.
This flute was made based on feedback from instructors across various regions, prioritizing ease of producing high notes, clear projection of upper high notes, and affordability.
For beginners, it is recommended to first learn to produce high and upper high notes before purchasing an expensive flute. It's advised to visit a shop, try playing different flutes, and then buy one that suits you. (Some flutes look good but cannot produce upper high notes.) It is also said that progress is faster if you start lessons once you can produce a certain range of notes.
To prioritize ease of playing, resonance, and affordability, there may be minor imperfections such as scratches, natural shapes, natural patterns, and natural curves.
A 10mm ball is shown in the image for reference regarding hole size.
Thickness: Approximately 18mm at the mouthpiece.
Length: Approximately 41.2 cm.
Mouthpiece opening: Approximately 14mm.
Thickness: Slightly thinner than average.
(Thicker flutes have better low-note resonance, while thinner flutes produce higher notes more easily.)
Wall thickness: 2 out of 5 levels.
(Thicker walls improve upper high notes and resonance, while thinner walls make the flute easier to play.)
Pitch: Approximately 7.2 to 7.5 notes. Slightly lower in winter.
Range: Cleanly produces notes from Tōon (Ro-on) up to Daikō-on 5.
What is Yakitake (Roasted Bamboo)?
This is the material among shinobue bamboo that produces the best resonance. Roasting bamboo thoroughly inside makes it harder and improves its resonance. However, it is difficult to process due to the scarcity of suitable materials.
Natural processing further enhances resonance. Bamboo grows by competing for sunlight. Therefore, bamboo that wins this competition is best suited for flutes. (We have many years of research in physics utilizing natural principles and can identify suitable bamboo.)
What is Tō-nuri finish (Translucent Lacquer Finish)?
Using pigments in the lacquer makes it easier to produce sound. Furthermore, carving grooves inside and allowing the lacquer to soak in further improves sound production and resonance.
Please note:
High notes and upper high notes are produced very easily. When blowing strongly, please ensure there is no one around. Please be especially careful with small children, the elderly, individuals with disabilities, and those who are unwell.
