Kishikyoku Shinobue Danjiri Flute
Purchased at Tami no Uta in Kishiwada.
This is a shinobue flute specifically for the percussion of Kishiwada-style Danjiri festival music. We aimed for a sound that would stand out on the festival grounds, not getting lost amidst the sounds of taiko drums and kane cymbals. By ingeniously adjusting the shape and angle of the embouchure and finger holes, we have achieved ample volume, a clear tone that carries far, brilliant finger-tapping sounds, and a rich resonance with a satisfying blowing resistance. This flute incorporates the results of our research into the percussion of the Kishiwada Danjiri festival since the founding of the Shinobue Culture Research Association (Tami no Uta). We have paid close attention to the pitch and tone of each of the five essential notes required for playing Danjiri festival music. The name Kishinokiwami is inspired by the brand (hot stamp) used by the Kishiwada domain during the Edo period to approve the construction of Danjiri floats. We have faithfully reproduced that mark as a hot stamp on this flute. It is a six-hole, classical-style shinobue equivalent to a 7.5-cho tuning.
I played it with care, so I believe there are no major scratches.
This is a rare item that has been sold out on the official online store for many years.
