Ogura Hyakunin Isshu Kyobi Karuta

This is a Hyakunin Isshu karuta set made by Tamura Shogundo, a long-established karuta manufacturer in Kyoto.

New price is over 8,000 yen.

Handmade in Japan by artisans.
The main body is finished with beautiful Japanese paper, and the inner cards have elegant borders sprinkled with gold and silver powder.
Includes a special Ogura Hyakunin Isshu bookmark (not for sale) consisting of 30 pages.

The backing paper is made of special colored suki-washi, so the color will not peel off due to friction. The sand-like pattern is also made with foil, not printing.

This is a higher-grade product than general popular versions. Specifically, the quality of the paper, the number of colors for the reading cards, and the use of gold and silver foil for the sand-like pattern on the backing. While there are even higher grades, we recommend this Kyobi Karuta as the top-tier choice for enjoyment in a typical household.

Tamura Shogundo's karuta are characterized by the well-defined features of the poets. All 200 cards are individually wrapped and pasted by hand, a masterpiece showcasing the skill and dedication of the artisans. Every aspect evokes a sense of history and tradition.

The decorative box is an elegant and sturdy handmade box using hand-made patterned washi paper.
The cards are made using the backing method.
The green backing paper, which complements tatami mats well, is sprinkled with gold and silver foil, creating a soft atmosphere.
The cards are slightly thicker and more durable than those with cut edges.
Suitable for both practical use and appreciation.
The characters are in Kaisho-tai (block script), making them easy to read even from a distance.
