1933 UK British Aluminum Cake Topper

Excellent condition vintage aluminum cake carrier lid (often referred to as a cake taker or cake saver).  The number —Registered Design 779868—is a British design registration number. In the United Kingdom design registry system, a number in the 770,000 to 780,000 range definitively dates the design registration to 1933.  It features an ornate, embossed repoussé style scrollwork and leaf pattern along the bottom rim and stylized sunburst or flame ridges along the top dome.  Made of spun or stamped lightweight aluminum with a contrasting black bakelite or early plastic top handle knob.  These ornate mid-century aluminum kitchen pieces were highly popular in the 1930s through the 1950s. While several manufacturers made similar items, the British registered design mark indicates it was produced by a UK metalworks company of that era.
