Maru obi with a Gosho-guruma (Imperial Court Carriage) and classic motifs

This is a stunning obi with a stately design featuring a classic Gosho-guruma (Imperial Court Carriage) pattern.

The obi itself is soft and easy to handle, suggesting that the obi core has been removed.

② The left side (as viewed) shows the tare (the hanging part) from the bottom. The right side shows the reverse side, so the pattern is inverted. Both sides have the same pattern.

There are creases, but no stains, and the fabric is sturdy, making it a beautiful item.

I don't have much knowledge about maru-obi (round obi), so I did some research:

[Maru-obi is considered the most formal obi for women. It was devised in the mid-Edo period and was used as the first formal wear obi until before the war. Maru-obi is characterized by having patterns on both sides because it is made by folding a wide obi fabric in half. It looks similar to the current fukuro-obi (pocket obi), but maru-obi is considered to be of a higher grade.

Features of Maru-obi:
Formality: The most formal obi for women.
Construction: Made by folding an obi fabric about 70cm wide in half and inserting an obi core.
Pattern: The same pattern is applied to both sides.
