1867 Switzerland Shooting Festival 5 Franc Silver Coin Schwyz Festival Commemorative NGC MS64
This is a commemorative 5 Franc silver coin from the 1867 Federal Shooting Festival (Schützenfest) held in the Swiss canton of Schwyz.
With a limited mintage of only 8,000 pieces, high-grade surviving examples are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain each year.
This particular coin has received a high grade of NGC MS64.
It retains strong original luster, characteristic of uncirculated quality, and features a natural, deep toning that makes it a truly captivating piece.
The obverse depicts a rampant lion holding a shield, symbolizing the strength and loyalty of the canton of Schwyz. This iconic design, with its detailed rendering of the lion's fur and musculature, remains richly three-dimensional. The signature of renowned engraver A. Bovy is present at the bottom.
The reverse features the Swiss Federal Cross shield at the center, surrounded by crossed rifles, flags, and oak branches, representing national defense and federal unity. This is a particularly popular design among shooting festival medals and coins.
