Vintage Japanese Satsuma Moriage Pedestal Vase Figural Gilt 12.25" Made Japan

Vintage Japanese Satsuma-style moriage pedestal vase, dating to approximately the 1920s–1930s. This substantial Japanese export pottery vase features an elaborate continuous figural landscape rendered in richly colored raised enamel, extensive gilt detailing, floral decoration and a deep brown ground.  The vase has an unusual footed pedestal form with a broad circular base and dramatic scalloped, flared rim. Traditional Japanese figures are depicted among mountainous landscapes, water and architectural and floral elements. Raised moriage enamel accents throughout the decoration create a highly detailed dimensional surface.  The underside is marked “MADE IN JAPAN,” and additional red Japanese characters are present inside the hollow pedestal. The specific workshop or decorator has not been conclusively identified.  Approximate measurements: 12.25 tall 6.25 maximum diameter 4.88 base diameter  Weight: 3 lb 9 oz  Very good antique/vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. There is visible wear and rubbing to portions of the gilt decoration, particularly around the upper rim and base, along with minor surface marks and crazing consistent with age and manufacture.
