Kochou is a popular work that captures the beautiful moment of the Bugaku dance Kochou.
The face and hand skin are finished with powdered clam shell, and the face, eyebrows, lips, and even individual strands of hair are painted with ink of varying shades. The costume, created with the Maki-e technique of mixing real gold leaf and painting in one go, exudes a dignity befitting a craftwork that inherits intangible cultural heritage techniques. Yet, it also possesses a heartwarming and mysteriously charming quality that makes you want to gaze at it forever.
With the theme of ancient Japanese Gagaku music and its compact size, it is particularly popular among foreign visitors.
Purchased in 2002, it was displayed annually for about 10 years during the Hina-matsuri season, and then displayed every few years thereafter. It has been stored with extreme care.
The four bouquets, attached to the crown and held in the hands, are unused items purchased in 2025 from Goshiki.
The dolls have no scratches or stains whatsoever. They are in extremely beautiful condition.
Thank you for viewing.
