Hida Wood Carving Daruma Doll Set (2 pieces) - "Eyes Open" - Hida Takayama - Lucky Charm - Wooden Folk Craft

This is a Daruma doll made with Ichii Itto-bori (one-knife, one-carving) from Hida Takayama, Gifu Prefecture.

It was displayed at my parents' home, but I am listing it for decluttering.

It is made of wood and has a mechanism where the eyes pop out.
It can be displayed in your entryway, living room, shop, or office as a good luck charm for good fortune, prosperity, and auspicious occasions, playing on the words me (eyes) and me (sprouts) which sound the same in Japanese, meaning joyful eyes or sprouts emerging.

Material: Made from a high-grade wood called Ichii no Ki (Japanese Yew). It is characterized by its beautiful wood grain and luster.

Place of Production: Primarily made in Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture. Ichii Itto-bori is a traditional craft of the Hida region.

Eyes: The protruding black eyeballs are a characteristic of this style. Each one is handmade by artisans, with subtle differences in expression, giving it a unique humor and impact. It is a popular traditional craft from Hida Takayama and surrounding areas.
