Antique Sommet Metal Chocolate / Ice Cream Mold of Sitting Duck / Swan
Sommet
The tinned metal mold (soldered together) consists of exactly fitting front and backside and is marked with the dolphin. The shape has no dents or holes, dark spots are just abrasion of the tin alloy. It comes from the famous manufacturer Sommet: Sommet, E., Paris, France. 1882-1962. Sommet's mark was a “dancing dolphin,” reminiscent of a renaissance stylized dolphin, shaped like an S. On some of his molds you might find a diamond with a number inside indicating the year the mold was made or stamped with an “L” (Liter) followed by a number. Sommet's molds that were marked with the “L” were made to be used for both chocolate and ice cream and the number referred to the number of liters of ice cream it takes to fill the mold.
