Description
Thank you for viewing.
This is a new, unused Susudake Shinsuiho chasen (tea whisk) by Kōzan tea whisk master, Tan'go Tanimura of Wakihoku-dō.
This is a rare Susudake chasen. In the Urasenke school, it is used for the Kijin-date tea ceremony. However, as I am no longer practicing tea ceremony, I am listing it as I will not be using it without having used it.
It was rarely used in Urasenke, and I had another well-used Susudake chasen for practice.
I am listing it as Near Mint Condition.
The box is labeled Susudake Shinsuiho.

Shinsuiho refers to a chasen with approximately 64 tines, which has a strong body and is ideal for preparing thick matcha.

This item is listed from an Urasenke perspective, but I am aware that Susudake chasen are primarily used in the Omotesenke school. Therefore, I would appreciate it if you would consider it if a Shinsuiho Susudake chasen is suitable for your use.

The size is approximately 6 x 12 cm, but this is an amateur measurement and may not be accurate as the chasen is attached to the box as it was made.

⚫︎ Chasen and Tan'go Tanimura
It is said that in the late Muromachi period, the son of the lord of Takayama Castle in Yamato Province created the chasen with advice from Murata Jukō, the chief priest of Shōmyōji Temple in Nara at the time.
The technique was passed down to the vassals of the Takayama family, who made chasen as a hobby. After the Takayama family fell, the place name was changed from Takayama to Kōzan.
It is said that the name Tan'go is recorded as a tea whisk master serving the Tokugawa shogunate during the production of these chasen.

It is unclear whether this is the work of the previous generation, the 19th generation, or the 20th generation of Mr. Tan'go Tanimura. The price at the time of new purchase is unclear as I bought them in bulk from a tea ceremony shop, but I recall it being around 25,000 to 30,000 yen before the COVID-19 pandemic.

The current selling price is unknown.
