This is a listing for the highest quality Shichirin (charcoal grill) from Noto.
KIDASHI Shichirin made of natural diatomaceous earth.

This is a luxurious item, meticulously hand-carved by artisans using chisels, a purely domestic product made from natural diatomaceous earth. Its craftsmanship and performance are undeniable.

While many pressed Shichirin (kneaded products) made from Noto's diatomaceous earth are commonly available, this is an authentic KIDASHI Shichirin, offering exceptional charcoal longevity, far-infrared effect, insulation, durability, and superior grilling results.

When used with Kishu Binchotan charcoal that burns bright red, the sight of it burning is so beautiful that you'll lose track of time just gazing at it.

Due to the Noto Peninsula earthquake on New Year's Day, KIDASHI Shichirin are no longer available.

How about for those who cherish them, collectors, or as a backup?
We highly recommend considering this authentic Shichirin, which will make your food exceptionally delicious, even if you've never used one before.

Diatomaceous earth is soil (soft rock) formed by the accumulation of fossilized remains of plankton (diatoms).
While three-quarters of the Noto Peninsula is composed of this diatomaceous earth, only certain areas, such as Suzu City, can actually be mined.

There are two types: KIDASHI Shichirin, which are carved from blocks of mined diatomaceous earth and fired, and kneaded products, which are made by crushing diatomaceous earth, mixing it with other clays and sawdust, molding it in a metal mold, and then firing it.

KIDASHI Shichirin are made by directly cutting from the diatomaceous earth layer and shaping it without crushing the block, thus preserving the air pockets. This results in excellent insulation and maximizes charcoal combustion. The chisel marks left by the artisans are also beautiful.

The history of diatomaceous earth KIDASHI Shichirin made exclusively in Suzu City, Okunoto, can be traced back to the Muromachi period.
The diatomaceous earth layer in Suzu City is said to have been deposited 20 million years ago and is characterized by its uniform and deep formation.
The method of digging by creating tunnels within this diatomaceous earth layer is called the KIDASHI manufacturing process.

Artisans meticulously craft these items with great care.
