This beautiful antique Franz Anton Mehlem plate features an elegant scalloped, shell-form rim with delicate floral decoration in shades of blue, pink, green, white, and burgundy. The softly fluted ivory-toned body is accented with a distressed-looking metallic/gilt treatment around the scalloped perimeter, giving the piece a wonderfully aged European appearance. The underside bears factory/decorator markings, including handwritten numbers. Franz Anton Mehlem operated the well-known Bonn pottery works in Germany, producing both decorative and utilitarian ceramics. Mehlem marks varied considerably over the years, with documented production extending into the early 20th century.
