Meaning and Origin: Mayura means peacock, and its design is characterized by motifs of peacock feathers. In Sri Lankan traditional culture, it is cherished as something that brings peace, wealth, and prosperity to homes, businesses, and land, and serves as a protective charm.
Uses: Originally used in traditional Sri Lankan rituals (such as the Tovil ritual), it is now widely loved as a home interior decoration and wall hanging due to its artistic beauty.
Materials: Generally, it is hand-carved from wood (such as Kaduru wood) and painted in vibrant colors.
Cultural Background: It is a type of Sri Lankan Raksha Mask (Devil Mask). While various types of Raksha Masks exist, the Mayura Raksha is one of the popular designs that imitates the elegant form of a peacock.
