Rustic Japanese earthenware Donabe (doh-NAH-bay) soup tureen/casserole dish with 4 matching bowls and serrated ladle. It features a heavily textured, unglazed matte-finished ceramic body with distinctive dark iron-slip spiral and abstract line details brushed over a lighter, speckled clay background. Donabe-ware is versatile; you can use it for a hot pot, soup, stew, for steaming fish or vegetables, making rice, or even grilling. Donabes are traditionally made from a highly porous, heat-resistant clay. Its porous nature allows the vessel to build up heat slowly and distribute it evenly. This donabe set is in excellent condition. There are no chips, cracks, or flea bites anywhere on the clay bodies, bowls, or lids.
